Know your religious-freedom rights

United States employment: Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 (42 U.S.C. § 2000e(j)) may require covered employers to reasonably accommodate sincere religious practice unless substantial increased costs in relation to the conduct of the business are shown (Groff v. DeJoy, 600 U.S. 447 (2023)). U.S. constitutional protections, state laws and institution-specific rules may also apply. International principles: UDHR Article 18 and ICCPR Article 18 recognize freedom of religion; their domestic enforceability varies by country. Court and institutional requests remain subject to applicable procedures and lawful limitations. Sabbath preparation: If your sincere religious practice requires preparation before sundown, you may request a separate accommodation for up to six hours or longer if genuinely needed. U.S. Title VII may protect sincerely held preparation practices where it applies; it does not automatically guarantee six hours of leave. State the practices, hours, and scheduling conflict.

How your information is handled

Your request and supporting files are stored privately for ICON-ELECT staff review and document preparation. Request details are sent through the existing Make and email service to administration; supporting files are available only through authenticated staff access. External institutional contact requires separate consent. Staff review retention when the case closes; no fixed automatic-deletion date is promised.
